SIN VIRTUE

Gluttony (over-indulgence) Temperance (self-restraint)
Greed (avarice) Charity (giving)

Envy (jealousy) Kindness (admiration)
Pride (vanity) Humility (humbleness)

The Seven Deadly Sins

  • Lust – An insatiable need for sex or things of a sexual nature. This includes thoughts, desires, and actions. If unfed, it can lead to masturbation, rape, and even bestiality. Lust is fed by any of the aforementioned means or viewing pornography.
  • Gluttony – Over-indulgence of anything to the extreme, usually food or drink.
  • Greed – The need for material possessions or wealth. If unfed, a greedy person may resort to hoarding, theft, robbery, or obtaining possessions by trickery, violence, deception, or manipulation. Greedy people are often easy to bribe or will do anything for money.
  • Sloth – Sadness, depression, or inability to feel joy. Often confused with gluttony, but more accurately linked to a lack of love and motivation, sometimes leading to thoughts of suicide or wrath.
  • Wrath – Extreme anger, hatred, or a need for revenge. People with wrath issues may take the law into their own hands, resort to violence, abuse, murder, or genocide. Dante described wrath as “love of justice perverted to revenge and spite.”
  • Envy – The desire to have or be better than others, to possess what they have. Extreme envy may lead to voyeurism or other harmful actions.
  • Pride – A need for public recognition or to be more important than others. Often prevents giving compliments to others and fosters a “one-up” attitude. Considered the most deadly sin, leading to damnation.

The Seven Heavenly Virtues

  • Chastity – Courage and boldness; moral wholesomeness and purity of thought through education and self-betterment.
  • Abstinence – Mindfulness of others and surroundings; practicing self-control, moderation, and abstention.
  • Liberality – Generosity and willingness to give; nobility of thought or actions.
  • Diligence – Zealous and careful nature in work and actions; strong work ethic; budgeting time and guarding against laziness.
  • Patience – Endurance through moderation; resolving conflicts peacefully; the ability to forgive and show mercy.
  • Kindness – Charity, compassion, friendship, and sympathy without prejudice.
  • Humility – Modest behavior and selflessness; giving credit where due and avoiding self-glorification.
